What it is:

Cabinet card measuring 4.25 x 6.5 inches.

What I know about it:

Photographer is Hawleys’ Photo Studios of Scranton, Pennsylvania.  Otherwise undated and unidentified.

Comments:

I wouldn’t say they look unhappy, but they don’t look especially relaxed, either.  Of course, I’m not sure how relaxed she could be, as cinched up as she is, though at least her pose shows off the dress nicely.  By the way, the back of the card indicates that a dozen of these “elegant” cabinet cards could be had for $1.75.

  1. I guess 1880’s. The straight bottom edge of the woman’s bodice and the narrow skirt should enable someone to date it to a closer year (I can feel myself falling down a rabbit hole of research, so I’d better grab the edge and stop).

    • Thanks! I know that rabbit hole of research well. 🙂 But no need to go down it for this photo. I would have guessed about that date range, too.
