Man from Wenden (Cesis), Latvia

What it is:

Carte de visite (CDV) measuring 2.5 x 4.25 inches.

What I know about it:

Photographer is L. H. Borewitz of Wenden (now Cesis), Latvia.  Otherwise undated and unidentified.

Comments:

The other day when I posted another photo by this same photographer, I pulled out all the photos by him and left them on my desk.  I’ll admit I was feeling lazy today and just pulled another one for this post.  But I like it.  It’s a handsome face worth looking at (though I suppose I feel all faces are worth looking at), and it’s one of those faces that has, to me, a disconcertingly modern feel.  Perhaps it’s the haircut?  This style of shot, from the mid-torso up, fading out at the edges with a nondescript background, is actually more typical of the Borewitz photos in my collection than the full-length shot with the detailed setting of the other day.

  1. All faces are worth looking at? I’ve seen a few exceptions, mostly in politics. But this guy’s worth a gander.
