I know it was perfectly in style for the ends of your tie to hang at angles rather than straight down. And I know that wavy, curly hair can be enormously challenging to tame. But it’s hard not to think this young man looks almost comically unkempt, like he had his photo taken at the end of an especially wild night. By the way, the photographer of this CDV, C. T. Cornwell, lists his location as “Cold Water”, when I’ve only been able to find that the town is called “Coldwater”, even back then.

Good point. I shouldn’t make assumptions. It may have been exactly the look he was going for.
