Couple in Blackpool, England

This little carte de visite image was created by Isaac Wilde of Blackpool, England. A quick internet search of him turned up enough samples, taken at different locations, to suggest he was relatively successful. What I love about this image is the way the otherwise conventional couple appears to be so alert and ready. Enlarging it, I realize there might be a posing stand behind the man, which may help explain the forced posture. I’m not used to seeing the stripe on the man’s pant leg, and wonder if it signifies something, or is just a fashion. The woman’s eyes are large and light-colored, and must have been striking in person. Looking at their eyes, I noticed that they aren’t looking at the camera, but off to our right slightly.
