This is an 8×10 glossy photo that has no information, but was in an unsorted bin of photos that included a lot of 8×10 press photos showing the human interest side of US Naval operations in the Mediterranean area. Pictures of officers’ dinners, meetings with local dignitaries, a visit by Cardinal Spellman to Cyprus, etc. They were all from around 1950. Not all of them were properly labeled. So I’m guessing this is a press photo from that collection. I’m fascinated by the extreme angle and almost paparazzi-style lighting. I see a lot of racial diversity (though only one woman), and some headphones and ear pieces that suggest translators are involved. It’s fun to look at all the faces and poses, and to pick out the few people who aren’t wearing the traditional jacket and tie (not to mention the one guy wearing sunglasses indoors). I called this “Press” because I think this is a press photo of a press conference, but I keep second guessing myself, and would be happy to hear if anybody thinks this is a photo of something else.

I like the pile of hats the corner!
I do, too! There’s a single hat on that strip of carpet, and after noticing that one, I spotted the pile of all the others. I’m not sure what the etiquette is there, but I can’t help thinking that guy made a smart move in keeping his hat with him.
It’s funny how all but two men are wearing jackets, even though some have flannel shirts on underneath. Evidently “jacket” was the dress code!
Yes, it makes me wonder about the handful of men who aren’t wearing jackets and ties. Were they deliberately flaunting convention, or did they walk in and go, “Oh, crap, I should’ve dressed better, I hope nobody take my picture”?
