Older woman in Dixon, Illinois

I realized I did three posts in a row featuring children, so here’s an old person for balance. This is a carte de visite image produced by J. H. Crawford of Dixon, Illinois. The revenue stamp on the back (click below to enlarge) narrows the date range to 1864-1866. While the image itself isn’t especially unusual, I tend to find myself wondering about the lives of old people in old photos like this. Is it safe to assume she’s older than 66? If so, that would mean we’re looking at a photo of somebody born in the 1700s, which is always remarkable to me. The whole left side of her face is rather droopy, suggesting some sort of medical issue, like a stroke or Bell’s palsy or something. I’m glad she wasn’t too vain to get her picture taken anyway.
