Pete and the accountants

With the exception of inscriptions, I normally find it exasperating when people write on photos. But I couldn’t resist this one. In what appears to be elderly handwriting along the top, a young man is identified as “Brother Pete”, and, assuming it all refers to him, described as the “youngest C.P.A. in the C.P.A. accountants history” and “Deceased”. It’s only an assumption that these are all the accountants of whom Pete was the youngest. There’s no other information to go on, but it seems reasonable. This photo (or what’s left of it) is about 9.25 x 7.5 inches, mounted to a cardboard frame/backing that has been rather crudely trimmed. I don’t know if any information about the photographer or location was trimmed away. But one of the things I love about this image is the way that, even when awkwardly crammed together, this group of 23 people required such an expansive framing that you can see more of the photographer’s studio than usual, and can see how much photographers back in the day depended on natural lighting.
