Nurse in Great Falls, Montana

This is a real photo postcard whose manufacturer’s markings (AZO, four triangles pointing up) indicate a date range of 1904-1918. Embossed on the lower right is the photographer’s name: Zelta Studio / Great Falls, Mont. Our sitter is dressed as a nurse and holding what appears to be a scroll, which suggests to me that this is a photo to commemorate her graduation from nursing school. I’m concerned that she looks like she’s having second thoughts about all this, but hopefully the photographer just caught her in a distracted moment. Strangely, her expression looks a little more sanguine in the enlarged version than in the actual-sized one.
