Man with a pipe

What a classic look! You don’t see many pipes anymore, let alone pipes in use in portraits. But I have another couple of photos of a man who I think is an older version of this guy, candid photos with family, and the pipe is present. (Those other photos don’t seem to give any more of a clue to his identity, by the way.) One thing I find interesting about this photo is the sort of watercolory shading around him. It resembles a few other photos I have where a similar, but more elaborate, effect was created around the subject. This was apparently in the development process, as opposed to having the person sit in front of a watercolory backdrop, and some of the effects include jazzy zigzags and things. I’m not sure how it’s done, or if it’s the same thing that’s going on here, but it looks similar. Whatever is going on here, I like the effect.

I thought you might like it! 🙂 I have others with people holding cigars and pipes, but just in their hands, not their mouths. I think this is the only one where someone is so grandly smoking. But I’ll keep an eye out for more.
Do you have any portraits of the people by taxidermy or holding guns?
Hmm, if you mean pictures of people posing with stuffed animals, I don’t think so, but I’ll keep an eye out. If you mean pictures of people actually stuffing animals, I would say almost definitely not. The closest I have is a snapshot of some ranchers gutting a deer or something. As for guns, none in particular leap to mind, though I have some pictures of soldiers in their camps and things which might have some holding guns. I have several snapshots of people fishing, but not hunting with guns. Still, thanks for letting me know what interests you. I’ll gladly take requests. 🙂
