Couple from Fulton, Missouri
What it is:
Photo (5 x 3.5 inches, oval) mounted on cardboard frame/backing (10 x 8 inches; an inch or so was cropped out of the edges of my scan).
What I know about it:
Photographer is Thomas C. Martland of Fulton, Missouri. Otherwise undated and unidentified.
Comments:
Not much to say about this, just a couple more interesting faces from the past to stare at. They look like they’ve put some effort into doing themselves up for the photo, and the effect is charming. That sort of aqua-gray border around the photo is interesting and, to my mind, a little unusual. And the landscape orientation of the photo is less common, though not rare, and particularly interesting given that the photographer’s name is embossed in a way that is designed to be read with a photo in the portrait orientation.
I’m just waiting for you to post a photo that someone writes in is of their relative–I bet it will happen eventually.
Yes, from the very beginning I’ve considered that possibility, particularly when the photos are newer, or when they are identified by name. I’ve had people arrive at my blog by searching on a specific name, but so far nobody has said they are related. The closest I’ve had is somebody writing to say their ancestors’ wedding pictures were taken by the same photographer. I think it would be fun and interesting to have that happen, unless the person was upset.
