Mr. Gammon of Chicago

What it is:

Carte de visite (CDV) photo measuring 2.5 x 4.25 inches.

What I know about it:

Photographer is Ormsby of Chicago.  The name E. H. Gammon is written on the back in pencil.

Comments:

I suppose it’s the ubiquity of the image of Colonel Sanders while I grew up that leaves me looking at this tie and assuming that the man is Southern.  Seeing that he’s from Chicago (or at least that he was there for this photo), and looking again at an image of the Colonel whose tie is actually rather different, makes me realize I’m probably wrong in my assumptions, and makes me wonder where the heck these ideas of mine come from.

  1. (Just to reiterate what you already said!)

  2. Chicago isn’t that far from the Mississippi River, where everybody’s southern.
