Richard’s Christmas portrait, 1911

What it is:

Cabinet card-style photo measuring just under 3.25 x 6.75 inches.

What I know about it:

Photographer is Strauss & Company of Vienna, Trieste and Brno.  Written on the back is Weihnachten 1911 / Richard.  (Weihnachten is German for Christmas.)

Comments:

More from the Austro-Hungarian Empire (but no facial hair!).  So I guess this guy Richard either got his photo taken for Christmas, or gave an existing photo to someone for Christmas (in which case it was probably still a fairly recent photo).  Christmas 1911.  That was a century ago.  It’s easy to get inured to such spans of time when looking at all these old photos, but when I really stop to think about it, it’s pretty remarkable.
