Comments:
An old high school friend named Nathan recently reconnected with me via Facebook. When he learned of my blog, he told me that he had a vintage photo collection of his own that he was ready to part with, and offered to send them to me. How could I resist? Well a box of old photos just arrived in the mail from Nathan, and I am delighted! He purchased them at a garage sale in Oregon (where we were in school together), but they cover a broad range of dates and locations, from the “Dakota Territory” to Miami Beach. This was one of his favorites, and I agree it’s lovely. Since he has been a contractor, he pointed out some of the interesting architectural details, including the vents in the stairs. And, of course, he was drawn to the sign in the background which reads Dunn & Light / Contractors – Builders. I’ll post more over time, of course. Meanwhile, thank you, Nathan!
Absolutely! Thank you Nathan, too!
🙂
A wonderful picture! There is such warmth radiating between the two. Another favorite of mine. Thanks to Nathan.
I agree. There’s another picture of Aunt Lib alone, and she just looks like a crabby old lady. This one is much nicer.
Matt thank you so much for the kind comments. There is so much in this picture that makes one feel the time and period, but I will risk belittling it all and just say that what is not seen makes it all “accessible”:
If you will, in your minds eye, picture Spanky, Alfalfa, Buckwheat and Petey running in through the yard and down the dirt streets of the town……
And thank YOU again for the pictures! Yes, I see what you mean. You glance at this picture and it feels old-timey. And yet, aside from the women’s clothes, the period detail is fairly subtle, and it’s not immediately obvious why it feels old-fashioned until you really start examining it. And yes, I can totally picture Spanky, Alfalfa and the rest running down the street. 🙂
Double “like”.
Thanks!
I collect old pics of Paola, Ks. Would you be interested in selling it? Thanks, Cassie
Hi Cassie. Thanks for visiting my blog! It’s always fun to hear what people collect. I tend to get attached to the pictures I have, so I’m not looking to sell at this time, but I’ll keep your e-mail if things change.
