Comments:
I go back and forth on whether this has a dreamy, soft-focus quality, or whether it is just blurry. However unintentional the focus may have been, I think it lends a romantic quality that enhances the setting. That seems to me to be a lake behind these women, though I can’t tell if they are sitting on shore or on some sort of boat. And while I thought the arm holding the umbrella was wearing a strange sleeve or long glove, I realize now it’s just the effect of the umbrella’s shadow. It looks like a very pleasant day.
seems to me that focus was set too close AND there is camera shake due to trembly hand and/or too long a shutter speed.
the blurriness leaves even more room for imagination 🙂
I agree, Alessandro. I think the blurriness was unintentional, but I think it adds a quality that enhances the image as we look at it decades later. I’m sure it was a disappointment to the photographer at the time, but we can appreciate it now. Frankly, considering how much more complicated cameras were back then, we are lucky to have so many candid shots passed down at all. That’s easy to forget in these days of point-and-shoot cameras. 🙂
And that the image survived. Love these, Matt! Keep posting!
Hey, Libby! Thanks! 🙂
