Click here to view it larger.

What it is:

Photo (approx. 4 x 6 inches) inserted into a cardboard frame/folder (I have cropped most of the folder from the scan).

What I know about it:

Photographer is Rockland Photo Studio of Rockland, Maine.  Otherwise undated and unidentified.

Comments:

Everything about this photo, her face and body, her hair, her dress, her expression, the lighting, etc., has such a gentle softness to it without falling into fuzziness or blurriness.  I think it’s quite pretty.

  1. Hi Matt
I think it looks more like a painting than a photo. It really is lovely!

    • Thanks, Katherine! I agree, her dress in particular. I had to look at the enlargement to make sure it was some filmy fabric and not a painting.

  2. Soft and pretty – she looks like the grandmother on whose lap all the grandchildren want to cuddle.

    • Agreed! And if you’re a good child, she might even let you crawl into her lap while she’s wearing her nice dress rather than waiting until she’s less formal.
