Postcard from niece Mae

What it is:

Real photo post card measuring 3.5 x 5.5 inches.  Unmailed.

What I know about it:

Undated, but the paper manufacturer’s markings (AZO, four triangles pointing up) narrow it to the date range 1904-1918.  Written in the address area is Mrs Mollie Mort.  Written in the message area is From your niece Mae Durre.

It’s interesting how many of the real photo post cards in my collection were apparently never mailed, at least not as a conventional postcard, as if it were just a standard choice for getting photos printed up that people often didn’t follow through on.  Best intentions, I’m sure, and I know how that is, so I’m not judging.  Our Mae here looks like a lovely woman, and I’m sure Aunt Mollie was delighted to receive this post card, no matter how it was delivered.  It’s funny, but while I assume this is a studio portrait, it always looks to me at first glance like she’s waiting for someone in a cafe.

  1. I like her pensive look and her pretty face. It would be nice to see her without that hat, and perhaps let her hair down. While it is probably just an illusion, she appears to have gigantic man hands.
