Rally ’round the mound

Click here to view it larger.

What it is:

Three photos, each measuring approx. 4.75 x 2.75 inches.

What I know about it:

Nothing!  Undated and unidentified.

Comments:

These are just some fun photos to celebrate summer on this lazy Sunday in late July.  Actually, here in San Francisco, July is often one of the coldest, foggiest months of the year, regardless of what the weather is like even an hour away.  San Francisco always has to be a little different, which is part of why I love it, but unfortunately that maverick quality tends to extend to the weather, too.  Perhaps these photos are just wishful thinking on my part.

  1. I love this sequence! I wonder where they are. Judging by the hairdo’s and a few of the bathing suits, I think this might be late ’40s-early ’50s. But it’s harder to guess when they’re so informal and wet : ) .

    • Glad you like it! I agree, it’s a little hard to date it, but your guess seems about right. And I don’t know the location, either. It seems warm, and I think I spot some palm trees, but that doesn’t really narrow it down all that much. I have at least two other pictures of these people, and while they show the dressing room cabanas things a little better, it doesn’t really give a better sense of time or place. But at least one of them I’ll have to post because it’s pretty funny. One of these guys is holding a cocktail in one hand, a woman in his other, and he’s wearing a dress! I’m assuming it was a bit later in the festivities. 🙂
