I keep looking at this photo and thinking she’s got such a wonderful old character actress face. In fact, she reminds me of Beulah Bondi. And then I remember that this is the original that the actress would be evoking. By the way, it seems there’s some retouching done to her hair. I didn’t notice it until I enlarged the scan. I’m not sure what the purpose is. Perhaps to add texture and definition? I’ve only seen retouched hair once before, here on a blog I follow. Actually, instead of saying I’ve only seen it once before, I should probably say I’ve only noticed it once before.

Beaulah was so wonderful. Ever seen her debut in STREET SCENE? Completely different from anything she ever did again.
No, I haven’t seen that one, but thanks for the recommendation. We’re so used to seeing her in the kindly spinster roles, but when I did a search to find the right image of her, I was pleasantly surprised to find a bunch of youthful glamour shots, too.
