Woman with a bold hat, twice

What it is:
Two photos (a bit less than 2 x 2.75 each) mounted to a cardboard frame/backing (a bit less than 7 x 5 inches).
What I know about it:
Nothing! Undated and unidentified.
Comments:
This cardboard backing has an area of about 4 x 2.75 inches within the raised border, and it is creative to use that area to display two small photos. I would normally expect it to feature a husband and wife, or a pair of siblings, something like that. I find it interesting, then, even a little odd, that somebody has chosen two extremely similar pictures of the same person. Was this a normal manner of presentation that I just haven’t seen before? I have to say, though, that taken as a whole, as a single portrait, I find it intriguing.
What a difference a slight profile makes in portraiture.
Agreed.
It reminds me of jail photography, except that the profile view is only about 50%. I’m guessing the intent was the same: to suggest a 3D perspective and make the subject easier to identify if encountered in the flesh.
Ha! Yes, it does look like a pair of mug shots. The more I think about it, the more it might have looked even weirder if the photos were completely different images of the same woman, rather than these slight variations. There’s enough variation already.
