Comments:
These attractive young people seem dressed for some occasion, but I wouldn’t know what. Perhaps they were brought into this unscenic locale to photograph them in the waning sunlight, even though it left them squinting? Hard to say for sure. Meanwhile, I started Googling, as it my want. Here is apparently a 1912 photo of the building (second in from the right with the white awning) that the Weiss Studio started occupying in 1919. (I’m not sure if it existed previously in a different location.) And I had never heard of Anamosa, Iowa, so I checked it out, too. It turns out to be the proud birthplace of Grant Wood, most famous for his painting American Gothic, though that painting lives elsewhere, so you’ll have to look elsewhere if you’re craving a bit of the gothic. Anamosa is also home to the National Motorcycle Museum. Interesting, but not especially gothic. To get your gothic fix, look no further than the astonishingly beautiful (and still operational) Anamosa State Penitentiary.
It’s a double date…he he he.
🙂
I’m willing to put money on them going to a speakeasy. Bootlegged liquor establishment often outside town, hidden in barns and the like. These are people on their way to an out of the way party. Hooch, Matt. They’re in it for the hooch.
That could well be!
