What it is:

Carte de visite (or perhaps a CDV-sized cabinet card) measuring approx 2.5 x 4.25 inches.

What I know about it:

Photographer is Maria Hammarbäck of Borgholm, Sweden.  Otherwise undated and unidentified.

My friend (and blog follower) Jenn sent me a Christmas card that, to my very pleasant surprise, included some antique photos!  Such a treat!  Most show a young family in the 1950s (one of which I’ll post later this week), but she also included this one.  I think it’s beautiful.  I’m intrigued by the chair, the different levels of its sides.  I can’t quite read the title of the book next to her (the last three letters are “ELN”), and I can’t quite make out what she’s holding in her hand (it kind of looks like a fistful of cookies, but that can’t be right).  Also, it looks like the photographer was a woman, which was unusual in that day.  Thanks, Jenn!

  1. You’re very welcome! 🙂

My guess? “Eln” may be the end of “Bibeln,” or Bible.

  2. Whatever is that fur? It kind of looks like a dog, or someone’s ponytail! Also, I for one am glad the style of ginormous bows has gone out of fashion.
