Another First Communion from Olyphant, Pennsylvania
Click here to see it larger.
What it is:
Photo (approx. 4.25 x 6.25 inches) mounted into a cardboard frame/folder (I have cropped much of the folder from this scan).
What I know about it:
Photographer is Carl Pawlowski of the Olyphant Studio in Olyphant, Pennsylvania. Otherwise undated and unidentified.
Comments:
As I rummage through my photos, I keep being surprised how many are from the little town of Olyphant, though I think they all came lumped together in a single eBay purchase a while back. I’m quite fond of my Olyphant photos, but I suppose it probably indicates that I got lucky when buying an auction lot of good ones, rather than that Olyphant photographers were inherently more talented. Seemingly by chance, my Olyphant photos contain a bunch of First Communion photos. Does this say something about the town? About the dealer? You can see the Olyphant photos I’ve posted so far here, and other First Communion photos (not necessarily from Olyphant) here.
Gorgeous picture!
Thanks, Mrs. P, I agree!
It is interesting that the young man is in a dark suit. In the 50s in Western Pennsylvania all the boys taking First Communion wore white suits. Fascinating how customs and traditions change.
You’re right, it’s amazing how styles can change.
This boy looks quite pleased with himself!
I’m sure everybody was pleased with him that day. 🙂
