Comments:
Mother and son? Out for a hike in the mountain woods, stopping for a rest so the boy can splash about barefoot in the water? Do they have some connection to whatever that structure is behind them? Whatever the situation, they seem to be enjoying a nice day.

I don’t know about the fun part. She looks very formal and strict and neither are smiling. I think he’d rather be playing in the water than taking a photo with her. 😉
She does have a bit of a governess quality to her.
Hey, she climbed up on top of a large rock – she cannot be that formal.I am imagining that after the official portrait marking the outing, they both splashed in the water a while. She looks like a good sport to me.
Maybe the photographer just forgot to yell “smile!”.
