What it is:

Photo (image area is 4.5 x 6.5 inches) printed onto matte cardboard (7 x 11 inches), mounted into a folding cardboard frame/holder (I have cropped most of the folder from the scan).

What I know about it:

Photographer is J. B. Schriever of Scranton, Pennsylvania.  (I believe his full name is James Boniface Schriever.)

Comments:

Lately, when I’ve been scanning photos that have a lot of blank border area, I’ve been cropping them down to focus on the images themselves.  But I thought this one was interesting, the way a special effect was used to create a printed border around the image, and the way it’s centered artistically towards the top of the page.  On top of which, of course, it’s a beautiful, elegant image.

  1. The border is definitely interesting. This photographer obviously had some artistic flair beyond the obvious. Not just the border, but also the lighting on the woman’s face and in the background.
