What it is:

Photographer is L. A. Dozer of Bucyrus, Ohio.
Comments:
The facial expressions of these two are certainly open to interpretation. Meanwhile, I Googled the photographer and found he was a “genial” and well-liked presence in Bucyrus. If it loads correctly, you can click here to see a brief article about the studio he had when in business with a partner named McLain, including images of the studio and the photographers themselves. He apparently died in 1921 while serving as the inaugural president of the Bucyrus Rotary Club.
They seem as though they’re chiseled out of…I don’t know…marzipan. Seriously, that man’s face looks like it’s been carefully crafted. Hers, too.
Interesting subjects. Would love to hear them speak.
Ha! Marzipan. Wouldn’t that be something? But I know what you mean, there’s something of a wax figure quality to them.
He seems far more happy to be there than she does. And are they a married couple? Is this their engagement photo? I especially adore that although she obviously very carefully pinned up and fixed her hair, a sprig has gotten lose and is heading toward the man’s face. 🙂
Yes, for such seemingly expressionless faces, there’s a lot that can be read into them.
