Comments:
My friend Jon and I have birthdays about a week apart, and tonight we got together to take each other out for a belated birthday dinner. And guess what his gift to me was! A stack of six vintage photos! He found them at the Oakland Museum’s White Elephant Sale, where he had been browsing with our friend Christine [harriedcostumer], who helped pick them out. (I’ve been warned by more than one person on more than one occasion to avoid that sale if I want to keep my sanity and my finances intact, but we’ll see. One day.) All six photos are the same size, on the same cardboard backing, from the same photographer. And since they were all purchased at the same sale, perhaps they are family members or connected in some other way? This is one of two photos of this woman. I think it’s especially lovely, so I thought I’d post it.
Yay! I was wondering when you’d get them. Those photos seemed surprisingly large to me–are they bigger than most of the pictures in your collection, or are they a more typical size than I realize?
Once you factor in the cardboard backing, they are somewhat larger than the cabinet cards and things, but it seems that around that time period the overall displays were getting larger. These are on the large side for my collection, but I do have larger.
Very beautiful. Do you have a “catalog” of your pictures?
Thanks! No, I don’t have a catalog. I’m not a dealer, just a collector, and I’m not that organized. At this point, my blog is about as close as you’d come to an organized record of my photo collection.
I knew you were not a dealer, but you are talking to an organization freak here! I have to have all my stuff in order or it drives me crazy. I am finally getting around to trying to “catalog” all the letters, documents, etc. for my files. I will definitely the person who gets all my stuff after me it it is not organized. 🙂
Oh, if disorder drives you crazy, you’d have a meltdown in my apartment. 🙂 But I think if my photo collection were being assembled for genealogy purposes, like yours, I’d make an attempt at greater organization.
I love order, but I live in disorder. Living with ADD/ADHD people does that….I try to control my little portion of the house but it is a losing battle. 🙂
She is lovely! What a wonderful birthday gift.
I agree.
What a great treat for you…and us! Thank you, Jon!
Yes, I was delighted.
