This is in honor of Memorial Day. I believe the round grave marker with a star on it denotes a military veteran, though I’m not sure of specifics beyond that. I found ones online that were similar but not identical. Click here to view the marker a bit larger if you have more knowledge (or patience) than I do and would like to try to figure it out. Memorial Day is specifically for honoring those who died in service, as opposed to Veteran’s Day, which is for honoring those who served at all. I’m not sure which category would apply to the person buried here. When honoring the dead, those sorts of details can make a difference. On the other hand, when mourning a lost loved one, those sorts of distinctions sometimes don’t matter at all.
