Older than their years

What it is:
Real photo post card measuring 3.5 x 5.5 inches.
What I know about it:
Undated and unidentified, but the paper manufacturer’s markings (AZO, four triangles pointing up) narrow the date range to 1904-1918.
Comments:
As I’ve said before, I’m terrible at guessing people’s ages, but I just can’t decide if the oldest of the three is the older sister or the mother.ย In any case, the effort to dress them up as guileless innocents doesn’t disguise the look on all three of weary toughness that comes with a hard-knock life.ย That, of course, is just what the photo says to me.ย Who knows what the real story is?
I like how they stick all together and that look from under to up …… very interesting example of old photography.
Yes, they look like they are in it together.
Photographer might not have been the friendliest of people, judging from the expressions…
Either that or he was very short and they felt they needed to look down on him in order to be in the frame, not realizing that he probably adjusted the angle of the camera for their height. ๐

Ha, yes, they don’t look like they are enjoying the process.
I am going for young mom with her two children. ๐
I started assuming they were all siblings, but lately I’ve been leaning towards the mom with children option, too.
Another vote for mother and two children – all of whom look as though they are resigned to life.
Yes indeed, they do.
Or – the older could be the sister, forced to raise her siblings after their mother died in childbirth with the youngest.
Yes, that’s a possibility, too.
