Although I’m frustrated by the smudge of white on her hands (paint? Wite-Out?), I find this photo fascinating. She’s sitting as if for a portrait, but not in a studio. Her pose manages to look both proper and casual. And the demure outfit is in contrast with the rather aggressive look on her face.

Yes, that may be part of where that facial expression is coming from. 🙂
At first glance, this photo does not seem very special, but then, as you look more closely, it becomes very intriguing. That bonnet! The scarf (?)! The dark, contrasting belt! The expression on her face! And then those demure shoes! I sure wish we knew more about her…
I agree, it gets more interesting the longer you look at it.
