What it is:
Photo measuring approx. 2.5 x 3.5 inches.
What I know about it:
Click above to see the writing on the back. It identifies the photo as being from Italy, 1944. I believe the city is Naples, but I could be reading the handwriting incorrectly. The rest is hard to read. Are those names? Nicknames? Identification of their unit? I’m happy for any input.
Comments:
I’m operating under the assumption that the soldiers are American and the boy is a local. I note the soldiers’ race in the title, despite it being obvious from the image, because I can’t help but feel it must have been an extra factor in their experience of this time, this place, this war. It’s a treat to see them so warmly received by their new friend.
I wonder if these men were part of the 92nd Infantry. Otherwise known as Buffalo Soldiers.
I don’t know, but that’s definitely a possibility.
