What it is:
Real photo post card, unmailed, measuring 3.5 x 5.5 inches.
What I know about it:
Photographer is Horwich Bros. Postal Studios of San Francisco and Oakland, California. Manufacturer’s markings on the back (AZO, four triangles pointing up) narrow the date range to 1904-1918.
Comments:
This weekend I finally went to the Oakland Museum’s White Elephant Sale, an enormous annual fundraiser where donated items are sold in a warehouse space. I went with several friends, including Christine (“harriedcostumer”), and was excited to check out the vintage photos, particularly since some of the ones I’ve posted here have been gifts from these very friends, purchased at that sale. I found some old photos for sale, but they weren’t terribly exciting, and in any case I was mostly waylaid by the book section. (We won’t discuss how many books I bought.) As we were leaving, I was told that I had overlooked the section with most of the photos. That’s right, the sale is so large that I could spend hours there and still not see everything. Well, maybe next year. Meanwhile, here is another photo that Christine got for me on another occasion. By coincidence, it is by the same photographer as one I previously posted here.
That’s so funny that you had another card by the same photographer–and they both have the same kind of good humor, I think.
Yes, it was a pleasant surprise. I’m not sure I would have necessarily noticed except that the two addresses rang a bell.
