What it is:
Carte de Visite (CDV) measuring 2.5 x 4 inches.
What I know about it:
Written on the back in two different hands is (I think) To Ada / George Mason.
Comments:
I’m guessing the boy is George Mason, and that somebody labeled the photo in careful, neat handwriting before somebody else decided to give it to somebody named Ada (if I’m reading that correctly). I’m charmed by the way somebody bothered to enhance this otherwise ordinary portrait with a splash of color. (I’m guessing it wasn’t the photographer, but who knows? Early efforts at hand tinting sometimes ended up looking pretty strange.) I wonder if the chair was actually purple.
