What it is:
Photo measuring 4.75 x 3 inches.
What I know about it:
Nothing! Undated and unidentified.
Comments:
This is one of those smaller pictures that definitely benefits from being enlarged. The man wielding the broom is wearing a hat on which I can read the word “station”. Unfortunately, that’s not enough of a clue for me to figure out where they are, or who they are. Or, of course, to figure out what the heck is going on here.
looks like an early gay pride parade in the SF bay 😉
The photograph seems to be taken on the rear side deck onboard of a Pennsylvania class battleship (note the lattice mast). Two of the sailors seem to run away (don’t want to get in the picture).
Ha! Yes, it does. It certainly looks like there’s something a little playful and naughty going on, unless it just happens to be the day all their pants get laundered. Who knows, maybe it’s a dance routine, and the two who seem to be running away are actually doing their moves. 🙂
Isn’t there a tradition of getting dressed up when the equator is crossed? Is that a possibility? 🤔
Oh, yes, I’ve heard of that. Good idea! I think that’s a possibility.
The variety of styles, plus what little we can see of their footwear, makes me think the group in the pic are just visiting the ship. When I was a kid, we got to go on an aircraft carrier and look into the planes. Whatever it is, they are definitely having a good time!
That could be, though they are pretty presumptuously casual for visitors. 🙂
