I love the way this image is so simple and yet so dynamic. Since it’s just a little snapshot, a bit less than 3 x 3 inches, I assumed somebody just got lucky with their camera. But the more I look at it, the more I think it may be posed. The stamp from the photo developer on the back dates it to 1942. (Click on the image to enlarge it.)

I don’t recall that I’ve heard of the Kisco Photo Service before, but it was apparently a service that would develop your photos if you dropped them off at the drug store. I found this article written by somebody who used to work for Kisco, explaining the process, in case you find such things interesting. (I’ll admit I just skimmed it.)

    • I think so, too. I makes me wonder, then, about the context, about the many possible reasons for taking this posed photo, and if there are others from that day that I’m not seeing.

  2. Posed or “lucky” I find it to be a powerful photograph.
