This little carte de visite image was taken by William Taylor at 4 Chapel Street in Derby, England. I like the fact that, not only is it clear enough to see details, there are a lot of interesting details to see. As straightforward as her silhouette is for the time, it looks like a rather complicated dress. And I wish I could see the colors, thought it’s an elegant image this way, too.

Stripes are always fun. Her brooch seems to have an unusual design, or at least one I haven’t seen before.
Yes, I like how the dress manages to incorporate bold stripes while still managing to be somewhat restrained. And I agree that the brooch is unusual. I’m assuming it’s just a unique design, rather than a symbol that has some meaning.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many different stripes on one dress!
