Woman with elaborate hair in Bath, England

I’ll admit I got this carte de visite photo just because I was so dazzled by her hair. Is it all even hers? Once I enlarged it, I was intrigued by her bracelet, which has a rigidly geometric pattern that seems in contrast to the softer, lacier quality of the rest of her outfit. By the way, the blotch that look like ectoplasm coming out of her mouth is just damage to the photo. The photographer, for those interested, is J. Perkins of Bath, England.

Her hair is fabulous and the bracelet is intriguing. My first thought was that the bracelet might be Greek, but that’s just a wild guess. A souvenir from an exotic holiday abroad with her wealthy parents? They could be in Bath on holiday as well.
You know, you’ve got a point about her possibly being on holiday. Early on in this blog, I would have labeled a picture like this “woman from Bath”, but now I say “woman in Bath”, because I don’t really know where she’s from, or why she’s in Bath on that day.
Photographers would often move to a resort area, then leave at the end of the season. I don’t know if Perkins did that, or if he was there year-round. By the way, her dress is also fabulous!
True. Despite it’s name, Bath isn’t a coastal town, though I’m sure it would get its share of tourists. I haven’t found a “J Perkins” listed elsewhere in England, but as we’ve discussed on other posts, my not finding it with a quick online search doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist somewhere
in the world.
