Eating on a rocky slope

Since I have a three-day holiday weekend, I’m doing a few day trips and hikes. Nothing quite as outdoorsy as the two people in this picture, but I imagine they’re are also on a nice weekend hike, pausing here for some refreshments. This setting looks mountainous, but I also wonder if it’s a trick of perspective, that maybe what seem like distant mountains are really just an eroded bank a few feet away. This image was done up as a real photo postcard, and the manufacturer’s markings (AZO, four triangles pointing up) indicate a date range of 1904-1918. Otherwise, there’s no information about who these people are or where they were that day. Looks like a nice time, in any case.
