Circus family, possibly

This image is done up as a real photo post card, but with no clues that I can find about the date or location, let alone the identities of these people. So I’m left with this intriguing image. My guess is that they are a family of circus performers, like acrobats or trapeze artists, though I’m happy to hear if anybody has other thoughts about it.
