Boy behind a leafy wall

I’m not quite sure what this studio setting is intended to be, whether its meant to be a specific type of place, or simply to evoke a generic sense of lush verdancy. It all looks a little awkward to my eyes, but for all I know, both the photographer and the boy might have been very proud of it. The photographer of this cabinet card is J. D. Strunk of Reading, Pennsylvania. More information and samples of his work can be found here, including another example of a sitter behind a leafy/grassy prop wall. It’s a good portrait, despite the leafy wall, which I find rather odd!
Agreed. It’s a nice picture of him, except for the way the leafy wall thing dominates the framing, overwhelming the image. It almost looks like the kid is a puppet in a puppet show.
