Man from Boston

What it is:

Cabinet card measuring 4.25 x 6.75 inches.

What I know about it:

Photographer is Purdy of Boston.  Otherwise undated and unidentified.

Comments:

When I first started buying photos, my focus was on pictures of people who are looking directly at the camera, and this was one of the first photos I bought.  I have since, of course, broadened my collecting interests to people in general.  And this photo is hardly flawless, with scuff marks on the surface, a chip out of it that makes it look like he’s wearing a pin over his breast pocket, and clumsily trimmed borders.  But it is otherwise a sharp, clear image of a rather soulful looking man.  The way he is looking directly at the viewer I find arresting, and it reminds me of why I found such photos appealing in the first place.

  1. Yes a lovely gaze, but the hairdo is a tad distracting! 🙂
