Here’s another photo that seems to invite you to interpret its tantalizing clues. Shall we assume they are mother and daughter? Are they dressed better than the setting warrants because this is a special occasion? What is that building? Is this location where they live, or are they visiting? Who is taking the photo? And why is the woman carrying both a purse and a briefcase?

That little girl has such a great expression close up!
She’s lovin’ life (or at least this moment).
The shadow in the foreground (presumably the photographer’s) adds an ominous note of confrontation.
How funny, I never viewed it that way, but you’re right.
I love the rookie photographer mistake of framing the photo with your own shadow in it. And the girl’s willingness to squint in the sunshine instead of requesting a hat. And the mother’s need for two purses.
Yeah, I think those elements add charm.
