What it is:

What I know about it:
Nothing! Undated and unidentified. (The bottom portion, which would typically contain the name and location of the photographer, has been trimmed off.)
Comments:
The outfit and the soft focus give it such an ethereal, angelic quality, while the face, though handsome, conveys a quality that is not the same as angelic innocence. And yet these two qualities are somehow not in conflict in this image. I find it quite a striking effect.

You’re right. That probably wasn’t the intended effect with her hair, but it’s the effect nonetheless.
I love a good play with focal length. Quite regal, this subject.
I agree. I have another that’s similar, and I can’t decide if it’s the same woman or a sister or cousin, but the dress is plainer, the photographic style is more straightforward, and the effect is entirely different.
