Man from Chicago
Click here to view it larger.
What it is:
Carte de visite (CDV) measuring approx. 2.5 x 4.25 inches.
What I know about it:
Photographer is Olson of Chicago, Illinois. According to a little online searching, the photographer’s full name was Charles H. Olson. Otherwise undated and unidentified.
Comments:
Something about the way his coat hangs loose and open makes him look like a man of action.
Agreed. In fact the photographer came within an inch of having lead in his gut when he looked at this subject in a way that was interpreted as cross. Known wide and far as having a quick finger, ‘shootin Billy Buttons’ was feared all over the Dakotas where he was reputed to have sent 23 men and 4 dogs to their maker, although there was some confusion about where dogs go when they are shot.
Good dogs go to heaven. Bad dogs come back as cats.
Ha!
Mike’s replies are my favorite accompaniment to morning coffee.
Unrelated note: so glad the Chicago man’s style of mustache is out of fashion these days. I can almost see the food he gets caught in it.
Agreed on both counts. (Be sure to check out Mike’s blog, if you haven’t already. I follow it, among others, and it’s one of the little pleasures of my mornings.)
