Man from Chicago

Click here to view it larger.

What it is:

Carte de visite (CDV) measuring approx. 2.5 x 4.25 inches.

What I know about it:

Photographer is Olson of Chicago, Illinois.  According to a little online searching, the photographer’s full name was Charles H. Olson.  Otherwise undated and unidentified.

Comments:

Something about the way his coat hangs loose and open makes him look like a man of action.

  1. Agreed. In fact the photographer came within an inch of having lead in his gut when he looked at this subject in a way that was interpreted as cross. Known wide and far as having a quick finger, ‘shootin Billy Buttons’ was feared all over the Dakotas where he was reputed to have sent 23 men and 4 dogs to their maker, although there was some confusion about where dogs go when they are shot.

  2. Mike’s replies are my favorite accompaniment to morning coffee.

Unrelated note: so glad the Chicago man’s style of mustache is out of fashion these days. I can almost see the food he gets caught in it.

    • Agreed on both counts. (Be sure to check out Mike’s blog, if you haven’t already. I follow it, among others, and it’s one of the little pleasures of my mornings.)
