Couple out back

What it is:
Photo measuring 2.5 x 3.5 inches.
What I know about it:
Undated and unidentified. It is printed on Velox paper, which would roughly date it to the 1940s-50s, but I would have guessed that anyway just by looking at it.
Comments:
The rather desolate setting and the angle of the lighting combine to give this image more of a moodiness than was probably intended. Sometimes I like this picture in spite of the moodiness, and sometimes I like this picture because of it.
A serviceman home on leave during the War?? There was probably a bittersweet undertone to the picture.
That could be. Yes, I can see a bittersweet tone when I look at it that way.
Has an East Coast feel.
Yes, I see what you mean. Part of me thinks it’s the setting, but there’s something hardbitten and urban about them, too.
And ethnic as well.
Yes, I see what you mean.
OMG, her hair!!! When you see this style done for movies and tv shows it looks exaggerated and over the top. She looks like she is wearing a caricature of the style. Great pic.
Nope, not a caricature, her hair is the real deal. I have no idea how such a style developed (though if she’s wearing a snood, there are theories behind that), but it’s always so interesting to see styles fully realized.
They look so serious. She, especially, has an expression of being imperious. And what an odd place to take a picture! Maybe they weren’t supposed to be together for some reason…. oh, the possibilities….
Ha, such a suspicious mind you have! 😉
They both look sad to me…maybe they were about to part? Or maybe I’ve just watched too many WWII movies!
I know what you mean. We all bring different things to looking at these photos, and sometimes it’s hard to separate our own experiences from what we are seeing here.
These are like characters from a cartoon. I’m thinking “Senor Droopy” (with the Spanish n). Interserting, as ever.
Ha, that’s a funny comparison, but you’re right, they fully embody certain types.
