Comments:
I’m beginning to realize that scanning photos can be a way of getting past the sorts of surface damage that obscure the image when you look at it in person. This photo is a good example. There is general silvering overall, plus there are silver smears that look like somebody spilled something on it. But those are all minimized in the scan, and the image can be seen with much greater clarity than when I’m just looking at it in my hands. (I never manipulate the images I post here with Photoshop or anything. I believe in showing the photos as is. Plus, I don’t have those skills.) That makes me happy, because I think this is a fun image. I don’t know who these two stout fellows are or why they are getting their picture taken, but neither one looks especially comfortable or at ease. Still, I’m glad they soldiered forth through their discomfort to commemorate whatever this relationship or occasion is so that I can enjoy their picture years later.
This is a fabulous find, Matt! Isn’t it a funny image? I don’t think I have ever seen a photo of an adult man who is sitting in such a way that his feet don’t touch the floor. It is a very awkward image. Most amusing!
Yes, I think it’s pretty funny, too. I don’t recall seeing such an arrangement before, either.
It sort of looks like he may be sitting on a box, possibly because the other man is so tall in comparison. I think I would have had the taller one seated and the shorter one standing. It does look odd with his legs dangling and that alone could be why he looks uncomfortable.
Yes, it’s all a bit odd. Since they are capturing the entire scene, there’s no need to artificially elevate one of them. And the one standing has to hold his arm at such an awkward angle to get it on the seated man’s shoulder.
Ha ha… I didn’t notice the feet at first but that cracks me up!
Glad you like it! It’s one of those pictures that gets funnier the more you look at it.
I find the ring on the standing man’s hand quite… interesting. Oh, and his eyes seem to follow me…..
Sometimes photos can be spooky that way.
