What it is:

Photo measuring 3.25 x 4.5 inches.

What I know about it:

Written on the back in pencil is:  Rita Marie Annette Brooks / 5 years old this very day / (your Bday pkg in hand) / 20th Feb ’45 Tuesday

Comments:

This is the same girl we previously saw showing off her Christmas poinsettias here.  I thought I would post another picture of her today because it’s her birthday.  Such a sweet pose.  I wonder what was in the package.  If she’s still with us (part of me wants to know, and part of me doesn’t, if that makes sense), then she’d be 73 today.

  1. Happy Birthday, Rita – wherever you are!

  2. Yes . happy Birthday Rita 🙂
Shi is posing very happy and there is this beautiful candid light comming out …..

  3. I had a friend once tell me that she thought it odd that some obituary’s use photos from a time long past. But aren’t we made up of all we have ever been? Rita, if still alive, would still be part little girl. And a cute one at that!

    • That’s a really nice thought. Yes, she’s a spunky, charming girl, and I like to think she retained at least some of that as she grew. It’s funny about those obituary photos. We all have tons of photos of ourselves these days since it seems everybody is always snapping photos all the time, but do we really have the sorts of nice portraits of ourselves that would be suitable for an obituary? We rarely, if ever, sit for formal portraits anymore. Maybe the older photos, in addition to looking attractive, are the best photos the heirs could find.

  4. I absolutely love photos that give the viewer a hint of what the picture is about! Happy birthday Rita…hopefully you are still alive and kicking. And, yes…I checked. There is not enough info to tell if she is still alive, knowing your thoughts I would only tell if she was still with us. 😉

    • In a strange way, it would be weirder knowing she was still around. Just more awkward, I guess, knowing she could stumble upon a random stranger posting childhood pictures of her, even if it’s being done respectfully, as I hope I am.

      • Looking at it that way…yes, that could be awkward. And you are always respectful IMHO.

      • Thanks for thinking I’m respectful. I do try. It would be very easy to just post photos and make a lot of snarky comments, but that’s not the sort of blog I wanted.

  5. Aaaw. Rita is adorable, both in this pic and the other one. The window in the house makes it look like Florida. And I too would love to know what was in the package! A book? Hair ribbons? Jigsaw puzzle? The game Clue, invented in 1944? http://www.ideafinder.com/history/inventions/clue.htm
