What it is:
Photo measuring 3.5 x 5.5 inches.
What I know about it:
Nothing! Undated and unidentified.
Comments:
This photo is somehow interesting and uninteresting at the same time. It’s such a boring pose, neither relaxed nor stiff, without any of the props or furnishings often employed by photographers to give visual interest, that he looks almost like he is modeling the clothing rather than posing for a portrait. And yet we get to see this poised young man for what he is without visual distractions, trusting him to be interesting enough, and for us to recognize that.
He looks like a groom, perhaps this is one of a series of wedding pictures.
That makes sense.
I agree with Mrs. P – my father was a photographer and often when photographing wedding parties, the various members of the wedding, since they were dressed up and at the photography studio anyhow, would request individual pictures. In the Fifties in Western Pennsylvania the studio session was usually between the ceremony and dinner/reception. Since everyone was anxious to get to the reception, the individual photos (except for those of the bride) were probably rushed without the usual “props”. My guess is that this is a groomsman.
Yes, that all makes sense to me.
