What it is:

Three photos, each measuring a bit less than 3.25 x 4.5 inches.

What I know about it:

Written on the backs of the first and second photos is Marjorie & Christopher (age 3 1/2 months).

Comments:

I’ve commented before that photos in the pre-digital age were more precious because of the expense and time it took to get them.  But I have a duplicate of the first photo, and the second photo was used as scratch paper, with penciled math calculations all over the back, so I suppose it’s all relative.  Meanwhile, we have here the pretty Marjorie and the adorable Christopher.  I think there’s a very good chance this is the same Christopher as appears here, since it’s about the right time period, and the handwriting on the back is nearly the same.  But is the other woman Marjorie?  She looks different to me, but similar enough that I’m not sure.  Though I’m terrible at guessing ages, Marjorie here actually looks older to me than the woman in the pictures with the older Christopher.  Am I just being fooled by a change in hair and make-up?  Perhaps one of them is a visiting aunt or something?  I look at each photo separately and I assume it’s a mother posing with her baby, but I look at them together and I’m confused.  Of course, it could just be that these aren’t the same Christopher, which would solve that problem.

Exactly! I think the two women are different, since one seems to have a lot darker hair than the other, but the longer I look at them, the less certain I am. “Sisters” seems like a strong theory, as you suggested.

    • The hair color could be changed with dye, and the overall impression of the face could be changed with make-up. But yes, assuming this is the same Christopher, then I’m leaning more towards the sisters theory. At least today. 🙂
