What it is:

Small cabinet card measuring a bit less than 2.75 x 4.25 inches.

What I know about it:

Photographer is C. Hrbek of Pilsen.  Otherwise undated and unidentified.

Comments:

Here’s a photo from Pilsen in what is now the Czech Republic, and would then have been the Austro-Hungarian Empire.  Here is another picture of a man from Pilsen.   Were beards like this fashionable in that time and place, or are these two photos a coincidence?  Meanwhile, if you’re interested, you can see the graphic design on the back here.   At the bottom you can see the names Eisenschiml & Wachtl of Vienna (Wien).  That would be the firm that did the lithography on the back of the card.

  1. That’s a really cool beard! It suits him. He has kind eyes. It’s a great photo, Matt! Even though I don’t comment as much as I should, I really love coming to visit your blog. Keep it up. 🙂

    • Thank you, Jenna! I appreciate that you say you’re still enjoying my blog. I only wish I had the time to properly enjoy everyone else’s, but I barely have time to keep up with my own these days!

      • I know just the feeling. I always mean to take a few moments and check out many other blogs, but there is always so much to do and so little time. At any rate, keep up the blogging and know you’ve got loyal fans anticpating a new photograph each day. 🙂
