What it is:
Photo measuring 4 x 6 inches. Glue on the back and indentations around the edges indicate it had once been framed.
What I know about it:
Nothing! Undated and unidentified.
Comments:
First Communion photos are usually fun for all the trappings of ceremony, and this is no exception, though I don’t have much to say about it except that she looks more contemplative than others in my collection. Others First Communion photos I’ve posted can be seen here.
The bridal veil and headdress seem to be weighing her down, although it’s probably just the effort of sitting still.
Or else she’s weighed down by the contemplation of her transgressions. 😉
The black shoes immediately caught my attention. No little girl in Western Pennsylvania in the Fifties, or boy for that matter, would have even considered black shoes with their First Communion whites. Your vintage pictures remind me that fashions and customs change over time and between geographic localities.
It’s interesting how telling the little details can be.
